i modded a gacha toy

2026.02.23 [mon]

i saw this MPC looking gacha toy for 400yen in nakano the other day, so i rolled for it (got the black one, nice), brought it home and went ahead with modding it, which in this case is just replacing the tiny speaker with a 2.5mm mono jack output

each pad has an assigned sample (kick, hi-hat, snare, and some random stabs), it automatically plays a sequence on start-up (there's 2 sequences total, each with their own sample "bank"...pretty neat!)

i sanded down the "decks" and pads (i actually over-did it a little so they're not really flat anymore lol) and i pierced 3 holes to fit a small 2.5mm mono jack output (PJ-307-1)

ive done this on other toys, it plays pretty well with my modular system. i think it's usually not recommended to just throw signals like this at your eurorack because im not sure what voltages are involved buuut... im never too worried with small coin battery toys (never had an issue)

anyways works great as expected, i love to hear the low frequency these toys are hiding, i sent it through some distortion (Pico DSP) and even played with pitch shifting with MI Beads... very nice
